Among them were, for example, for the first time in history, the Romani-Slovak reading book for 2nd grade Rómsko – slovenská čítanka pre 2.ročník or School Social Work with Pupils from Marginalised Roma Communities Školská sociálna práca so žiakmi z marginalizovaných rómskych komunít. A total of 11 titles published this year have been supplemented by others by NIVaM, which can now be downloaded free of charge on the project's website, or a limited number of printed versions can be obtained on request.
In the new edition of teaching materials, teachers can obtain, for example, for the very first time, the Romani-Slovak reading books for the 3rd and 4th grades, together with workbooks. The edition also includes a Romani-Slovak and Slovak-Romani dictionary for teachers, a textbook - Romani language for intermediate students and Methodology on the history of Roma.
The Romani-Slovak and Slovak-Romani Dictionary for teachers Rómsko-slovenský a slovensko-rómsky slovník pre pedagógov contains several thousand terms that will help teachers to use the Romani language in communication with Roma pupils and to overcome the language barrier. The dictionary will enable pupils to expand their vocabulary in both the Romani and Slovak languages.
The Romani-Slovak reading books are bilingual, in Romani and Slovak. They are intended for pupils in primary education. They include Romani-Slovak texts for practising reading literacy, working with text and reading comprehension. The aim of the texts prepared in this way is to develop linguistic competences of Roma pupils in the Slovak language through the Romani (mother tongue) language, which helps to increase their interest in learning and to achieve better learning results.
The textbook Amari romaňi čhib II, Romani language for intermediate learners is intended for students of secondary schools, with the aim to prepare students for the final exam in Romani language (B1) and to prepare them for pedagogical or other specific activities in Roma communities. Methodologies on Roma History are a suitable tool for teachers who teach and/or will teach Roma culture and Roma history in primary and secondary schools. Their aim is to broaden the possibilities of strengthening the cultural identity of Roma pupils and to eliminate prejudices and stereotypes against the Roma minority.
Our sincere gratitude goes to the authors, co-authors and all those who contributed to the creation and finalisation of the teaching materials.
