The closing international conference on innovative teacher education to enhance teachers' intercultural competences in the educational process of Roma pupils, known under the slogan "Together with Roma we will achieve more"

8 April - International Roma Day.

A day to celebrate the rich culture, history and traditions of the Roma people!  It was on this day that the closing conference of the pre-defined project "Together with Roma we will achieve more", supported by Norway grants and the state budget of the Slovak Republic under the program "Local Development and Inclusion", took place. At the conference, the results of the project in three areas were presented:

- Systematic support for the introduction of Romani language and literature into school educational programmes.

- Promotion of intercultural education.

- Promotion of inclusive education and democratic school environment.

The aim of the project was:

- To prepare teachers to work with pupils from Roma communities. 

- To create supporting teaching materials in Romani language, culture and history.

- To prepare teachers for a language exam in the Romani language.

Thanks to the project, innovative educational methods have been introduced that strengthen the identity of Roma pupils and emphasize the importance of education in the mother tongue.

The project entitled Innovative Training of Teachers to Increase Intercultural Competences of Teachers in the Educational Process of Roma Pupils was awarded from Norway through the Norway Grants in the amount of 1 105 000 €. The project was co-financed in the amount of 195 000 € from the state budget of the Slovak Republic. The aim of the project is to systematically support the introduction of the teaching of Romani language and literature, Roma culture and history at all levels of education within the school curricula of schools with pupils from Roma communities, to promote intercultural education, democratic and inclusive school environments.
